Project — K-AREA 2028
2008 — 2028.
Building the futures.
In 2028, the workshop turns twenty. Twenty years of practice in the same place, in Le Vauclin. The world is changing shape; we need a space ready for the one that is coming, without turning our back on the one we come from.
The project
A square
for making
K-AREA has always been, first of all, a place where things get made. The 2028 project starts there: a volume designed for production, above all.
Not a white cube, not a black box. Neither the gallery’s white room nor the theatre’s black one, nor a grey compromise between the two. A box for making: neutral, raw, adjustable, where anything can be set up and taken down.
A volume of 8 × 8 m on the floor, 4 m to the ceiling. One corner points north. Four sliding doors, 2 m each: two facing south-east and one facing north-east for the morning light, one in the south-west corner for the afternoon. Open, light comes in and moves around the room through the day, the outside comes in, the set can go out. Closed, the box becomes a tool again.
Kare, in Creole, is the square. The new studio will be one, literally.
